Chambers keeps the Surrey County Show litter free

Chambers had the important role of ensuring that the fantastic 62nd Surrey County Show in May stayed litter free from start to finish. Held at Stoke Park in Guildford and attended by thousands, the show provided heaps of family fun. Livestock judging saw cows, sheep, goats and horses of all shapes and sizes compete for a coveted trophy – our favourite categories were ‘grumpiest pig’ and ‘pig most like its handler’. Entertainment came in the form of stunt bikers, dog shows, show jumping and Morris dancing and there was an abundance of tasty local produce ranging from free range meats to chocolate-covered strawberries.

With all the fun comes lots of litter so we were delighted to provide 80 new Chambers wheelie bins located at recycling points around the show. The rubbish that didn’t make it into a bin was collected by one of our 13 uniformed litter pickers.

During the course of the show we regularly emptied the bins to prevent unsightly overflow, and after the event we transferred the day’s waste to our state of the art materials recovery facility in Slyfield where our team segregated paper, wood, cardboard and plastic ready for recycling. Any non-recyclable residue was baled and wrapped to produce a high quality refuse-derived fuel product – thus achieving 100 per cent diversion from landfill.

As one of the UK’s largest privately owned waste contractors, it was a pleasure to provide our services to ensure the Surrey County Show was kept spick and span. Disposing of litter responsibly and efficiently is important to the success of any event. It is the fifth year that we have helped out at the show and we look forward to returning next year – see you on 27 May 2017!

Chambers Waste Management Creates Eight New Jobs at New Recycling Facility

Chambers Waste Management has completed a major investment in refurbishing its recycling facility at Aldershot, Hampshire, creating employment for eight people.

The site was formerly a transfer station where waste was stored before being transferred to other facilities for processing. The latest investment has seen the installation of a state of the art recycling plant which enables the company to efficiently segregate paper, wood, cardboard, plastics, aggregate and both ferrous and non-ferrous metals on site.

Chambers New Recycling Plant

Any non-recyclable residue from the plant is taken to Chambers Waste Management’s recycling facility in Guildford, Surrey, to be baled and wrapped to produce a high quality refuse-derived fuel product – thus achieving 100 per cent diversion from landfill.

To service the new plant the company has also purchased two state of the art machines to handle the waste: a Liebherr LH22 – which carries out the first waste segregation and loads the plant – and a JCB 550-80 Wastemaster Loadall to unload all the various recycling materials from the plant onto transport.

Emma Chambers, finance director at Chambers Waste Management said: “Our new Aldershot recycling centre has greatly enhanced our environmental credentials. It enables us to meet demands for recycling services while streamlining our operations – by cutting down on the number of lorry journeys between our sites, increasing recycling rates and reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill.

“Eight new jobs have been created including the role of site manager and waste operatives, taking the total number employed at Aldershot to ten. As a local family run business we are particularly pleased to be bringing a boost to the Aldershot economy.”

Chambers Look to the Future as they Move into New Commercial Vehicle Workshop

The site stretches across three acres and will accommodate Chambers’ future expansion programmes. The onsite building is home to the offices and mess room facilities.
