Gold Sponsors of Surrey County Show
Once again the Surrey County Show was a great success as a taste of the countryside and rural life arrived in the centre of Guildford on Bank Holiday Monday, and for the sixth year running Chambers were proud to support the show as a gold sponsor.
Our gold sponsorship agreement included taking on the responsibility for handling all of the waste generated as a result of the show. In order to achieve this we provided 150 Chambers wheelie bins located at various recycling points around the show, together with numerous skips and RoRo containers.
During the show we supplied on site compaction vehicles and operators to handle the waste generated throughout the day. Visitors would have seen the Chambers team in action regularly emptying the bins to prevent unsightly overflow and ensure that visitors always had clean and accessible bins available for them to dispose of their rubbish responsibly.
An event of this size generates a large amount of waste and this year we transferred nearly 12 tonnes of dry mixed recyclables back to our state of the art materials recovery facility in Slyfield, where our team segregated the paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and aluminium cans ready for recycling. Any non-recyclable residue was baled and wrapped to produce a high quality refuse-derived fuel product - therefore achieving 100 per cent diversion from landfill.
In addition to the dry mixed recyclables waste generated by the public, we also collected all the waste generated by the hundreds of animals at the show including horses, cattle, pigs and goats. We collected a staggering 14 tonnes of manure which we then processed and returned to agricultural use.
The 2017 Surrey County Show again attracted nearly 40,000 visitors to the 66 acre site in Stoke Park and continues to be the biggest one day agricultural show in the UK. It provided a fantastic day out for families and was a great experience for visitors of all ages including hundreds of animals on display, food and drink, top class entertainment, exquisite rural crafts and competitions.
As one of the UK’s largest privately owned waste contractors, we are pleased to be able to provide our support to this iconic show. It is always a pleasure to ensure that all litter is disposed of responsibly and efficiently, as we have continued to ensure for the last six years.
