Unsung Heroes... Transport Supervisor
Here come the girls… our latest unsung hero is Claire who works as Transport Supervisor in our very busy transport office. If you ever visit us here at Slyfield, Claire is probably the first person you’ll meet when she welcomes you with a friendly smile at our reception counter, so she definitely deserves some recognition as a Chambers Unsung Hero.
Claire’s day starts early, as she is often in the office well before 7am ready to look after the drivers as they arrive for work in the morning. She hands out the lorry keys together with folders containing run sheets for their first 3 jobs of the day – these are paper copies of the job details which are also available on their hand held PDA.
Claire works as part of the transport team who during the rest of the day all answer calls from customers, book on deliveries and are responsible for allocating new jobs to drivers as the orders are received. She also provides assistance to drivers if they experience any difficulties with a job ie. if they can’t get access or if skips are overloaded, and can reroute them to different jobs if necessary.
There is also a lot of administration work to be getting on with including dealing with completed jobs and entering weights onto the system to determine charges. Also looking after driver holiday forms, uniforms, submitting driver time sheets to the payroll department, handling cash payments and providing reports to the directors.
At the end of a long day Claire and the team in the transport office then allocate and schedule jobs for the next day and print off the driver run sheets ready for the morning.
And we mustn’t forget that Claire has the most important job in the company… ordering lunches!!
Claire enjoys her job as each day is really busy so doesn’t ever have time to get bored. It takes a very organised person with a thick skin and good sense of humour to work in the transport team but she enjoys the interaction with all the drivers and loves the banter provided by the rest of the team in the transport office.
