School improvements a success with support from Chambers

Chambers has lent its support to a local school by providing a skip free of charge for a volunteer Groundforce day, as mums, dads and pupils came together to improve their school grounds.

The Parent-Teacher Association of St Thomas of Canterbury Primary School, which is based in Guildford, organised the recent event to help brighten up and refresh the school’s outdoor space.

The aim of the day was to create a more attractive environment for the 430 children who attend the school. The PTA wanted to add more plants and flowers, refresh tired fences and repaint old sheds. Parents and children painted, dug and swept in what was a highly successful day’s work.

The PTA expected to create a significant amount of waste as a result of their efforts, so contacted us to arrange to hire a skip for the day. When we heard about the great initiative we decided to offer one of our skips free of charge.

This saved the PTA £200 and meant they could purchase more materials, plants and flowers to make the school’s outdoor space even more attractive and welcoming.

However, the group’s work isn’t done yet. In the future, the PTA hope to create a sensory garden and a prayer garden, as well as plant Christmas trees for every year group and repaint more sheds, fences and picnic benches.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on how the PTA’s great work is improving the environment for pupils and will continue to support the volunteers wherever we can.
